Alignment to the threshold

In stores and markets you can most often find three types of decorative thresholds: straight, leveling and finishing.

Beautiful design of joints, transitions and corners is the main indicator of the quality of finishing work. thresholds must be durable, easy to install and fireproof.

A variety of thresholds help connect materials that differ in color and texture, and in addition, extend the life of floor coverings and greatly facilitate the cleaning process.

Straight joints (overlapping joints) are intended for decorating straight joint joints of various floor coverings located on the same level.

Leveling (multi-level) help to connect sections of the floor that have different heights. Easily smooth out differences of 3-18 mm.

The final (final) ones are used to decorate the edge of the covering on all kinds of podiums, as well as when approaching the steps of stairs, a balcony or the threshold of a hallway.

Mounting methods

It is necessary to say a few words about fastening the thresholds. It can be open or hidden.

Open installation is called when the fastening elements remain visible. This is how metal thresholds are most often installed. Holes for fasteners are already made in them at the factory. The procedure is obvious: holes are drilled at the installation site, dowels are hammered in and a metal strip is attached.

With the hidden method, glue or screws hold the fastening strip (in this case, a dowel), onto which the face strip is “clicked” or glued. Moreover, the length of the dowel should correspond to the thickness of the floor covering. This is achieved by different means. First, by using a sill with a zig-zag metal structure on the bottom profile, which allows the top bar to be pressed to the floor with a few blows of a hammer. Secondly, by selecting a dowel of the required height: 6-13; 8-15 and 14-21 mm.

There is another option for hidden fastening - with glue or self-adhesive tape . True, re-installation is impossible, and the strength of such a connection weakens over time, while there is no doubt about the reliability of fastening with screws.

A person who has the skills to work with simple tools is able to install a decorative threshold on his own. The repair company will have to pay about $6 for installation of one threshold or $5-8.5 for 1 linear sill. m.
