How to apply liquid wallpaper correctly

Liquid wallpaper is a fairly popular finishing material, the advantages of using which are numerous. Finishing specialists note that this decorative material is characterized by good “adhesion” to the wall, and this allows us to count on a long service life of the finished coating. It should also be noted that the applied mixture can hide small defects in the walls. By the way, liquid wallpaper can be used to decorate not only the surface of the walls, but also the ceiling, in any room - from the living room and kitchen, to the restaurant and conference room.

The method of working with this finishing material is quite simple, so no special training is required - even a beginner can handle it. The main thing is to follow certain rules, and then the coating will be not only high-quality, but also durable.

Work must begin with preparing the mixture. The main thing here is to strictly follow the instructions: pour the dry composition into a container and carefully, stirring thoroughly, add water. It should be slightly warm - 30-35 °C. After mixing, there should be no unsoaked lumps left. The finished composition must be allowed to brew for the adhesive to swell. The composition of liquid wallpaper is silk-cellulose, cellulose and silk, so the standing time will depend on the possible content of large fractions - from 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, the mixture must be stirred periodically.

This decorative material can be applied to the surface in the following ways: by spraying - in this case you need to use a sprayer. This method requires a certain skill, otherwise the buyer risks getting an uneven lumpy layer on the wall. The second method is somewhat easier and simpler, but the work will take a little longer. To carry it out, you will need two narrow spatulas - to apply the finished mixture onto a wider spatula, which will be used to apply the liquid wallpaper to the surface. Finishing specialists call this method smoothing.

After all work is completed, the coating must dry. The thickness of the layer directly affects the drying time - on average, this process takes a day. An open window will help speed it up: this type of wallpaper is not afraid of drafts (this is unacceptable when pasting with paper or vinyl). Finding out whether decorative plaster has dried or not is quite simple: you just need to feel the wall - you shouldn’t feel cold from it.

After drying, if desired, liquid wallpaper can be coated with acrylic varnish. This is especially true for kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms - this technique allows you to increase the moisture resistance and durability of the finished coating.
