Plastic plinth: all the nuances of installation from A to Z

Installation of floor plastic plinths is carried out after finishing the walls and laying the floor covering (linoleum, carpet, parquet).

First we need to determine how much skirting board and what markings we need. We choose colors according to taste and the color of the floor covering. And the quantity of plinth according to the formula: perimeter of the room + two meters (in reserve) divided by 2.5 m (standard length of plastic plinth). It is also necessary to determine the number of connecting elements, corner and at the joints of the plinth.

After all the calculations, you need to actually buy the plinth.

After purchasing, we proceed to installing the baseboard. To do this, we will need the following tool: tape measure, hacksaw, knife, awl, drill, screwdriver and pencil or marker.

Before installing the Plastic plinth, we clean the bottom of the walls and floor from growths, nails and other foreign objects that may prevent the plinth from adhering tightly to the surface. Then we start marking. We start marking from the corner of the longest wall. We put a corner on the corner of the plinth and try it on the wall. We retreat 3-5 cm from the edge of the wall and outline the future mounting location, then to the end of this plinth. We move the plastic plinth to the side and drill holes, clean the area of dust with a vacuum cleaner, hammer dowels into the holes and lean them against the wall again. Using an awl, we pierce holes in the baseboard and screw the baseboard onto the screws with a screwdriver. We start screwing from the wall and go in a row to the last screw. Before tightening the last screw, we put a plastic corner on the end of the baseboard. We repeat these procedures up to the corner.

Having reached the corner, you need to measure the required length of the plinth and saw off the extra piece. It is also worth taking into account the width of the connecting corner element, so that the plastic plinth fits into it by 3-5 mm. We repeat this procedure on all walls of the room.

If it was planned to lay the cable in the baseboard, then it is advisable to buy a baseboard with a cable channel so that you can lay the cable without unscrewing the screws from the baseboard, but if the baseboard is without it, then the wires can be hidden in a special internal cable channel. This can be done during installation by placing the plinth under the screws, only carefully so as not to damage the wire with the screw. Or after installing a plastic plinth, unscrew the 10 mm screw and lay the cable on it.

The places where the cable enters and exits the baseboard are carefully cut out with a knife.
