The best underlay for laminate - Izoplat

Publication date: 1 September 2016

Laminate is one of the most popular floor coverings. It is very affordable and quite easy to install. However, if you want additional convenience and coziness, or maybe you are planning to install a heated floor, then the use of a special underlay is mandatory. This layer is necessary to prevent contact of the laminate with a sufficiently heated floor. If you try to save money and not lay down a substrate, then after a short time the appearance of the initially ideal surface may deteriorate. If you ignore such annoying changes, then the laminate, in some places, will come into contact with the screed and “knock”.

The Polish-made Isoplaat underlay was created specifically to simplify the work with laminate flooring under “warm floor” conditions. This material is created on the basis of heat and sound insulating boards Izoplat. This underlay is also convenient because it is perfect for laying a new coating or repairing an existing one.

Isoplaat underlay is a natural material that can be used in a variety of places. The boards contain no chemical components or various adhesives. The manufacturer used wood resins as a binding element. The Isoplaat underlay is breathable and can even out slightly uneven floors. This material itself is very warm, which contributes to additional significant savings. And these are not all the advantages of the Izoplat substrate.

Advantages of Isoplaat underlay:

- porosity is a guarantee of noise insulation up to 22 dB, and the thermal conductivity is 0.050 W/mK;

- despite its apparent lightness and porosity, the Isoplaat substrate is very durable - it can withstand loads of up to 20 t/sq.m;

- with a one-time flooding, this material retains all the declared qualities. After complete drying, the substrate has its original shape.

Installing them is not difficult, the main thing is to follow some recommendations.

isoplat substrate

The Isoplaat underlay must be kept for 24 hours in the room where it will subsequently be laid. This is necessary to equalize the moisture content of the material and the environment. It’s even better to lay the slabs vertically, place bars under them and between them - this will increase the access of air over the entire surface of the product. They must be laid one next to the other - at an angle of 45° to the joint of the floor covering. This allows you to avoid matching gaps between the substrate and, for example, the laminate. You need to leave a gap of up to 10 mm near the wall - for possible expansion, gaps of up to 2 mm are allowed between the plates. Greater stability of the Isoplaat underlay can be achieved by securing it with staples or using a small amount of adhesive.
