Properties and application. DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL Styrodur - green, yellow, pink extruded polystyrene foam, has good thermal insulation ability, low water absorption and high strength properties. It is difficult to ignite (self-extinguishing). PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIAL Density - 25... 42 kg/m3. Thermal conductivity at a temperature of 10°C is 0.025... 0.033 W/(m°K). Compressive strength at 10% deformation - 0.15... 0.7 N/mm2. Water absorption for 28 days with temperature fluctuations is 0.1...0.5% of the volume. Application temperature - from -180°С to 75°С. Styrodur does not contain freons. DELIVERY FORM AND DIMENSIONS Styrodur is supplied in the form of slabs (plates).
Dimensions of the material depending on the type and edge processing: thickness - from 20 to 100 mm; length - 1000 mm, 1250 mm; width - 500mm, 600mm Styrodur is available with three types of ends: smooth, stepped and tongue-in-groove end. Insulation over rafters - The opposite of insulation between rafters, in this system Styrodur insulation boards are laid on the roof sheathing on top of the rafters. VAPOR AND MOISTURE PROTECTION When installing a sloping roof, it is necessary to provide both protection from external moisture and wind, and to prevent the diffusion of air and water vapor from the inside, for which a vapor barrier layer is installed. In this case, bitumen roll insulating material (roofing felt) is perfect for this. It is better to fasten it with special galvanized nails, with an “overlap” of 8 cm. EXTERNAL ROOF COVERING Ceramic tiles are used for the external roof covering. When installing a roof with a thermal insulation layer of Styrodur, other generally accepted types of external coatings can be used on top of the rafters, for example, steel sheet (profiled or flat), asbestos-cement profiled sheet and others. SOUND PROTECTION Styrodur provides not only heat but also sound insulation of rooms. Measured noise reduction values range from 37 to 48 dB. COLD BRIDGES Geometrically determined cold bridges occur where the internal heat-absorbing surface is smaller than the isothermal external surface. The consequence of this is that at this location the internal surface temperature is lower than that of adjacent external building elements. Such cold bridges are characterized by a two- or three-dimensional heat flow. This occurs, for example, at the corners of buildings. Cold bridges caused by geometry are also found on the attics of flat roofs, protruding balconies, canopies and bay windows. Design- and material-related thermal bridges occur when materials with low thermal conductivity in external building elements are combined with materials with high thermal conductivity. Negative impact of cold bridges In the context of increasing requirements for thermal protection, individual cold bridges are beginning to play an increasingly important role in the functional parameters of the building faade. So, depending on the level of thermal insulation and the design of connecting parts, a building can lose up to half of the heat it gives off through cold bridges. Significant disadvantages caused by cold bridges include the following: increased energy consumption for heating; danger of formation and accumulation of water condensation; risk of damage to building elements; danger of mold formation with a health risk. Already during the planning and construction of buildings, it is necessary to study in detail all cold bridges and their effects, which can be eliminated using appropriate structural measures, for example, targeted thermal insulation of cold bridges. The adhesion of the slabs to concrete is so high that, as a rule, additional fastening with dowels is not required. Corrugation also ensures good adhesion of the surface to internal and external plaster, as well as to adhesive solutions. The slabs are universal in application - they can be used not only for thermal insulation of cold bridges, but also for complete insulation of facades and basements.
