Plastic window sills made in Ukraine under the Openteck brand are by far the most popular. Their main advantage is the lowest possible cost on the market, compared to analogues from other manufacturers. Classic white color - this material fits harmoniously into any interior style and fits a standard window profile. The width of PVC structures varies from 100 to 700 mm (multiple width 50 mm), and the length can reach about 6 m. Each product is cut to any size, taking into account the specified parameters.
In many apartments located in panel buildings, it is customary to install models whose width varies from 250 to 300 mm. For balconies without extension, so-called “cigarette” window sills with a width of 100-150 mm are used. For balconies with extension, structures of 350-400 mm are installed so as not to take up free space. For “Khrushchev” buildings or the private sector, window sills with a width of 350-400 mm are used. In the set, along with the products, the manufacturer provided the presence of plugs, which are also made of plastic. Such plugs fully match the color shade of the product. When performing installation work yourself, without the help of specialized craftsmen, it is important to remember that improper installation of the structure has a negative impact on its further service life. Professionals highlight some proven installation methods:
- Using a mounting adhesive consistency using clinker-spreaders.
- The use of special foam with an adhesive composition is a popular and widespread method.
- Installation using brackets. This method is used only when the width of the window sill noticeably exceeds the width of the window opening. Thus, the installed window sill will “peek out” from the slope angle by 10 cm or even more.
- Installation of the model using special metal brackets.
- When performing such work, it is important to consider some technical data:
- It is necessary to organize a reserve distance to the foam - about 20 mm.
- The edges of the installed window sill must be “hidden” in the wall - a slope of 1 cm or more.
- All holes formed under this surface will need to be treated using polyurethane foam.
- The installed structures may have a slight tilt of 3-5 mm towards the opposite window. This is necessary so that all excess moisture from flower pots or condensation collected on the glass flows towards the radiator.
